Canon SELPHY CP220 Driver Free Download

Canon SELPHY CP220 Review-Digital photography can be printed on several types of printers in home conditions. The most common of course are the universal inkjet printers, but recently they are becoming affordable and single-purpose sublimation printers. One of them is the new model Canon CP-220, which can print images up to 10 x 15 cm and whose very detailed review is now offered.
{Basic information}

Inkjet printers suitable even for printing photos there is more than enough on the market. In the better (and slightly more expensive) cases, these are printers using six inks for better color rendering, especially skin tones, and with a regular four-ink (CMYK) inkjet printer, you can get very decent photos. A prerequisite for all inkjet printers is a special photo paper with heavier weight and plenty of ink consumed. Photo Paper has always a few layers of paper and plastic is reminiscent of the touch. The Canon CP-220 is one of the sublimation printers (sometimes referred to as transfer), where the "detection" colour of the special foil is applied to the special print medium by heat. The foil is usually wound in a plastic cartridge, which can be sold separately and is always designed to print exactly the number of photos.

The official end recommended price for the Canon printer CP-220 is 5 999 Kč including VAT. I do not know to what extent is the information on the web and in the EU price lists canon current, but on online stores, the Canon CP-220 can buy significantly cheaper, mostly with a difference of up to several thousand CZK! For example, the relatively well-known Cybex currently offers it (as of 31. 7.2004) for approx. 2 800 CZK excl. VAT, i.e. Approx. 3 332 CZK incl. VAT and similar to many other inet stores. Canon also offers the CP-330, which varies from CP-220 to the battery connection options, ensuring perfect mobility and further built-in Infraportem for wireless printing from various mobile devices. The CP-220 can only be used near the wall socket (AC adapter included), and the printer cannot be powered by the USB cable. You will get a CD with drivers for different versions of Windows and Mac OS, drivers for other Canon operating systems if I know it does not officially offer.

You can see the detailed technical specifications of the Canon CP-220 in the table at the end of this review. The printer has a resolution of 300 x 300 dpi and, due to its small size, it is able to print photos with a maximum width of 10 cm. The dimensions of the printer itself without the attached feeder are 170 x 119 x 54.8 mm, weight including 10 x 15 cm paper tray and print The cassette is a little over 1 kg.

For more detailed information about consumables and the necessary paper feeders, see the final review part. Together with the CP-220, you get the feeder on the most likely used 10 x 15 cm images and consumables (Papers + print film) on 5 "postcard" format test printouts. There is no USB cable included in the printer, which you have to buy separately (the price of several tens of crowns). Without a USB hub, you can also print via Čtyřmetrový USB cable (verified in practice), so the printer can also be connected to a relatively remote computer. The printer includes a basic printed and detailed electronic PDF manual in many languages and a separate printed Czech translation of the accompanying user manual.

With Canon CP-220/CP-330 photo printers, you can also print directly from PictBridge-equipped digital cameras. It is an industry standard for directly printing photos on different devices (cameras, camcorders, etc.), where a digital camera or other image device connects to a separate USB port. The print control is usually provided by the video device itself, equipped with the majority of the display and the necessary adjustment elements. I tried printing from a Canon digital camera EOS300D and the result of a borderless press can 't say anything more than it works completely reliably and completely without any problems. The PictBridge specification was accepted by the CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association) and is officially supported by Canon, Fuji Photo Film, HP, Olympus, Seiko Epson and SONY under its own DPS designation.

[-More-] {principles, progress and print quality + software supplied}

The Canon CP-220 is a sublimation fixed-head printer (valid for all sublimation/transfer printers) and thus the printer passes only the print medium itself. The paints evaporate gradually from the print foil and applied to special heat-resistant paper. The paper thus defacto absorbs the gaseous ink originally coated in solid form on the print foil during printing. Each paper passes through the printer several times, in the case of Canon CP-220/CP-330 four main passes. In the first step, the printer only "Vcucne" paper that is inserted in the tray with a shiny side facing up. During the next three passes, the shades of yellow, magenta and cyan are gradually printed, and the special cover layer is partially resistant to moisture and, above all, UV radiation, during the final fourth pass. The entire printing process lasts at CP-220 for images with a size of 10 x 15 cm, approximately 90, including loading paper into the printer (approx. 3-5 s from the start of printing). Finished images are color-stable and to some extent should also be water.

Sublimation technology effectively solves known and even some high-quality inkjet printers with occasional strips of emerging "rozhrkanou" or poorly adjusted print head. Like any other, sublimation technology has its shortcomings, which are especially evident in portable photoprinters. The biggest enemy of the print media and the film is dust particles and other impurities, which are completely reliably keeps and heat fastened into the printed photograph. The closed input feeder for CP-220/CP-330 is well protected from the dust, at the point behind the printer (where the printer is moving the paper) but no more feeder is not so I recommend to wipe the area behind the printer carefully before each occasional printing and the same emphatically The upper side of the paper feeder. Those few seconds to wipe off the dust can save enough money for any broken images with vlisovanými contaminants. When printing is finished, you can highly recommend removing the paper tray and closing its input in the printer. Another rule is not to touch the glossy side of the papers, which can be comfortably grasped (relative to their weight and individually) from their side and placed on the tray.

Of course, the software supplied is the most important driver that Windows XP from CDs almost itself installs after connecting the printer to the computer. Drivers (so far) are not in Czech, because of the very simple possibilities of print parameters but I don 't mind. The screenshots include the individual sections of the controller. In the original print Requesteru Windows (Mac OS version I have not tried), basic options for selecting paper size and print orientation are available, nothing else can be set and the paper source is always one of the possible paper trays/feeders. You can find the print media size and print orientation again in the Canon CP-220 drivers themselves. You can also turn off borderless printing if necessary (enabled by default) and choose the number of copies. The second driver section is used for editing before the final color printing. You can set the saturation and RGB settings of the folders, and you may also adjust the brightness and contrast values. Too bad the drivers don 't allow gamma correction settings, which would probably be appreciated by a number of users more than the ability to debug individual RGB components and separate brightness and contrast. In the third and last section of drivers you can turn off the display of information messages about the completion of printing, etc. For programs with a custom print requester, all options may not be available as with other printers. The 10 x 15 cm format is actually a little smaller, the real usable area of the photograph (i.e. to the edges of the perforation of paper) is 100 x 148 mm, the same is the format L size with exact dimensions 89 x 119 mm.

Other software added to the printer is mainly related to digital cameras and therefore I will mention it very briefly. This is for example a well-known photo manager Canon ZoomBrowser EX 4.6, a software for compiling panoramic photos Canon PhotoStitch 3.1, Canon PhotoRecord 2.1 for the acquisition and editing of photo albums and various other ancillary utilities for the use of digital Canon cameras such as RAW image conversion, software for RemoteCapture functions, etc.

The quality of the press would be broadly marked as excellent. Despite the relatively small print resolution, only 300 x 300 dpi is due to the full connection of the individual colors of the Canon CP-220 (again for all sublimation/transfer printers), there are no rasters or individual dots as it seems inevitable With an inkjet printer with the same or slightly higher resolution. The shiny surface of consumable materials (see next part of the review) does not achieve such a degree of shine as photos from professional fotolabů, but for everyday use is rich enough. A printed or rather "Napařovaná" color palette easily runs towards blue and, when printed from a computer, the unedited photo feels a little "cold" impression. In addition, at zero values in the drivers, the images are slightly darker than the output from the inkjet printers, but for the output taken directly from the Canon digital camera, the image was approximately comparable.

Again, I was able to compare with the output from Canon i965 (tests for certainty with 6 Mpix images), which prints unedited images with visibly "hotter" shades than the printer Canon CP-220, but which is not only given by the printing technology itself using six Separate inks and high dpi, but, of course, possible driver settings. Images can be easily edited in any graphic editor and, given the possibility of adding brightness directly in the drivers, the original slightly darker images can be fine-tuned to your liking for the second or third printout and the settings keep for most other print jobs. The accuracy of color trapping is, of course, perfect for the new printer, but the quality of the mechanical parts and the paper feed mechanism will be verified up to time.

For print quality, I have one more general note about images from older or cheaper digital cameras. In the L size format is not smaller photo resolution (typically for 2 Mpix and less) printed on CP-220/CP-330 at all, you know 1.3 Mpix cameras are pretty much worse. However, the visual comparison of printed 2 Mpix images in 9 x 12 cm and 10 x 15 cm format is sometimes seen that 2 Mpix is for CP-220/CP-330 and 10 x 15 cm format in terms of the maximum quality of the printout almost at the boundary of applicability and even minor clippings or cutouts in 2 Mpix Photography almost does not come into consideration.

You must also crop the photo, as all normal digital cameras usually only support a resolution with a aspect ratio of 4:3, which is, of course, needed to be automatically or manually adjusted for photos of the size of 10 x 15 cm. For digital cameras with a resolution of 3 Mpix higher, then (due to printer resolution 300 x 300 dpi) for photos 10 x 15 cm Everything is in complete order and you can afford even a slice of detail and, of course, more pronounced cropping of the entire photograph.

[-More-] {Consumables, paper feeders, printing costs and seals}
In contrast to inkjet and laser printers, the price of consumables is defacto immutable, depending only on the price offered by the Distributor, Neboř Recyklade Print foils are obviously not possible. Generally again, on inet stores, press materials are a little cheaper (yes, I know it's a pretty silly note, but every crown I think plays in the final photos of my role). Printing materials for sublimation printers The Canon brand is manufactured only by Canon and I do not know of any other company that should in the offer of print films and papers for any of the Canon printers CP-XXX series. The package always contains a set of paper and a cassette with a foil that is intended for exactly the specified number of printouts.

In our market, Canon offers three types of paper + transparencies for printing labels, business cards and stickers and three other types of paper for photo printing. You will find their overview in the table below, including the number of pieces and the recommended end prices (including VAT). Each format requires a different paper feeder that resells only the Canon. Fortunately, the prices of the individual feeders are not excessively high (it's actually just a piece of plastic), for example the paper feeder KL36IP (L size) costs approx. 420 Kč tax incl. Vat. The printer has its own detection mechanism, which recognizes the different types of paper trays/feeders, so it cannot be fool, for example, by setting the paper size L to the side of the paper tray velikosti10 x 15 cm, the printing will simply not be done. Why are paper + films of size L size (approx. 9 x 12 cm) so much more expensive than consumables for 10 x 15 cm format images I really don 't know, it's probably one of the little strange relicts of Canon and its pricing policy.

KP36IP (10 x 15 cm) 36 PCs 406 €
KL36IP (L size) 36 pcs 477 €
KC36IP (Card size) 36 pcs 422 €
KC18IL (Label) 18 PCs 422 CZK
KC18IF (Full sized label) 18 PCs 422 CZK
KW24IP (10 x 20 cm) 24 PCs (only for CP220/330) 422 CZK

The specified consumables can be used in Canon CP-100, CP-200, CP-300, CP-220 and CP-330, widescreen photos of KW24IP are for CP-220 and CP-330 printers only. In foreign countries, Canon still sells KP108IP (price per store of approx. 40-50 USD), which contains printing materials for 108 photographs of 10 x 15 cm format, but in our market I have not seen such packages in any stone or online store. All printing materials are glossy papers, no matt or semiglossed paper if I know Canon pro CP-220/CP-330 does not offer. Transfer or transparencies or something similar, of course, with the Canon CP-220/CP-330 forget it.

When printed on a widescreen format of 10 x 20 cm, it remains a few centimeters from the right edge of free, this area is intended for possible typing of handwritten notes and shorter texts. For normal photos, the formats are 10 x 15 cm and L size, which is approx. 9 x 12 cm. Each type of paper has approximately 1.5 cm of free space on the lateral edges with marked fine perforation. The edges are used by the paper feeder and are simply odtrhnoued after the photo is printed. The printer prints slightly over the edge of the perforation, so the printing is really completely borderless. "Postcard" format 10 x 15 cm is a classic postcard, so after you print a photo and tear off the perforated edges, you just need to stick the stamp, overwrite the address + some of the necessary things around and move the photo to your mailbox:-).

Printing costs can be calculated with respect to fixed prices and the need to use original print cartridges and paper exactly, I will not, of course, take into account the price of the printer itself. At the official final price of paper + transparencies for photos 10 x 15 cm (KP36IP), one photograph will be released for approx. 11.28 Kč including VAT. On online stores, consumables KP36IP sold at prices from approx. 370 CZK higher incl. VAT. VAT, in the cheapest case, one photo will be released to around 10.28 Inc. Vat. If you have the option to purchase print materials for a company that is a VAT payer and you can put them in company costs, one photograph will be released for approx. 8.32 CZK without VAT. It is, of course, usually more and more than you would pay in the digital service (according to the type of trade/service approx. 5 to 10 CZK), on the other hand you have a photo or photos available almost instantly and you can possibly adjust their colors, brightness, contrast etc. When printing several dozen or even a few hundred photos, it is of course incomparably more to let images be done in Minilab, where their price currently ranges from approx. 4.90 CZK, but usually on the contract from about 100 pieces higher.

Comparing the cost of printing photos taken on conventional inkjet printers is based on the Canon CP-220 relatively favorably, photo paper is always part of the type of consumables and you do not need to buy it separately. Separate comparisons with inkjet and laser printers You can do for example on the printing costs website. For example, the price of a single photo 10 x 15 cm taken on a high quality inkjet printer Canon i965 will come out when using original inks and PhotoPaper GP401 to about 10.30 Inc. VAT, for the high-end photo paper PR-101S with durable coating is approximately CZK 17 including VAT. Of course, the cost of inkjet printers can be reduced by using "less branded" photo papers and refilling inks with various refill kits (which makes it very vulnerable to printer manufacturers:-), and this usually results in a loss of warranty for the printer brand). Unfortunately, nothing like the Canon CP-220 and virtually all other thermal/termosublimačních printers is not practicable.

At the end of the brief. The Canon CP-220 is small and therefore easily portable sublimation photo printer designed for occasional printing of several or several dozen photographs. Unlike inkjet printers, because of the printing technology used (no nozzles), the printhead does not need to be cleaned to waste precious ink as is the case with all inkjet printers. Of course, the printhead with termoprvky cannot dry, and the replacement/replenishment of the print materials in the form of a foil cassette is completely clean and trouble-free work. The print quality in CP-220 in my opinion is comparable to better inkjet printers that allow photographic printing. The disadvantages and limitations of CP-220 are predetermined by its construction-printing only up to the size of 10 x 15 cm format (or widescreen postcard 10 x 20 cm), the need to buy only original consumables and print only on glossy papers. If I do not take into account the somewhat nonsensically high official price of the printer, the price of Canon CP-220 at various inet stores (approx. 3 000 Kč without VAT) is quite favourable and at present this is probably one of the most interesting Termosu blimačních Photo Printing solution, plus akceptovatelnými the cost of one 10 x 15 cm photo.
